What exercises or workouts do you perform when you go to the gym? Maybe you choose the latest workout from a fitness magazine, search online for a “10-minute ab workout”, or ask your buddies what lifts you should do. Although these methods may work to an extent, they are not the most effective way to reach your goals.
This new year, invest in your long-term health by hiring a personal trainer. A trainer’s job is to provide a program that is specific to you and your needs, goals, health history, and prior experience. One of the goals of a fitness professional is to teach you proper form and technique while exercising. This promotes safety, as well as reduces the risk of injury.
In addition to promoting safe exercise techniques, here are three more reasons why you need to hire a personal trainer to achieve your goals this New Year:
- A trainer will hold you accountable.
You are much more likely to exercise if you have time and money invested in the endeavor. Trust me, if you set your alarm for 5:30am to go to the gym by yourself, you are much more likely to stay in bed and get an extra hour of sleep. However, if you have a 5:30am meeting with your personal trainer, you have extra motivation to do your workout. Additionally, a trainer can also provide accountability for nutritional, sleep, and hydration goals.
- A trainer will provide variety.
One of a trainer’s jobs is to make sure exercise isn’t boring! A trainer’s responsibility is to make sure new exercises, or variations of exercises, are regularly included so that your workout routines are individualized and full of variety.
- A trainer will help you set attainable goals.
A fitness professional is trained to measure your level of physical fitness. For example, he or she may test your upper and lower body strength, body composition, flexibility, or heart rate during various activities. Although this may sound intimidating, it is important to have a baseline measurement of your physical fitness. That way, your trainer can help you set achievable goals. Baseline measurements also ensure that your training program is effective and that you are moving towards your goals.
